Sticking to the Script

The Script's ebullient frontman Danny O'Donoghue is brandishing a professional camera. He took up photography two years ago, he says, casually flicking through his pictures - arty shots of the view outside his London home, self-portraits, nature.

"I love shooting graveyards," he says enthusiastically. "There's so much atmosphere."

The 32-year-old has become used to being the figure in front of the camera as well as the one behind. In the past four years he has gone from little-recognised frontman in pop-rock band The Script to celebrity after a stint as judge on the British version of talent show The Voice, alongside Jessie J, Will.i.Am and Tom Jones. Overnight he watched his Twitter followers rocket to thousands.

"I had to turn off my phone. It was a constant stream of messages, marriage proposals and nonsense", he gushes, Irish-accented words spilling from him.

"But I'm being mobbed for the right reasons - right now there's a big outpouring of love for The Script. It could have gone the other way. You never know what way I could have come across on television".

He's brought his band up with him. Now heading out into the world after a British No 2 album entitled #3, and their first chart-topping single, they can still recall the disappointment of playing to just 26 people in a 250-capacity venue, most of whom were their own family.

A few years later, less than two miles down the road, they were playing to 60,000 fans.

"Four years. That's nothing, that's the length of a relationship. Crazy", says O'Donoghue. Not that the band have ever struggled for commercial appeal with their speciality blend of crowd-pleasing rap and emotive arena-soft-rock anthems such as their hit The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Loved by their multitude of fans, critics have been less charmed, but O'Donoghue is far more concerned about his fans' opinions. And wouldn't anyone be, when their band's record sales total more than four million, and both their 2008 debut album and 2010 follow-up were No 1s?

He tells me a sentimental story of a man who, separated from his sister since they were children, gave her their song The Man Who Can't Be Moved when they were finally reunited after 30 years apart. "Who cares if you don't get great reviews in newspapers? That's the shit I live for. That's what I'll be telling my kids, not 'Here's a shit review in NME'."

That the band managed until recently to remain fairly unrecognisable while achieving chart-topping albums was intentional. "It was very much our choice", says O'Donoghue. "We didn't have ourselves on the front cover [of our albums] because we didn't want people to get the wrong idea about this band. It's very easy for a record company to package a band as extremely pop ... We didn't want to be perceived in any way other than the music and creativity."

You can see how being anonymous would be preferable to the horror of being perceived as a manufactured boy band. After all, The Script formed organically, three old friends from Dublin - O'Donoghue, guitarist Mark Sheehan, his best mate since the age of 13, and drummer Glen Power. For O'Donoghue, who grew up surrounded by music - his father was a musician who played with Tom Jones and Roy Orbison, his mother a dancer - it was a way of life.

"Growing up I used to sleep in a place called the music room and there was a mattress on the ground and a piano in the corner. Friday, Saturday, Sunday it was party house in our house.

"I remember my dad told me a story about he and my mum waking up and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy was in the bath. They didn't know if he was dead. They'd been having a session playing."

His two older brothers play in bands back in Ireland to this day. You might think that music was always going to be the chosen career path of O'Donoghue, the youngest of six children, but he didn't pick up the guitar until he was 14 or 15. "No, I ran the other way," he states. "My mum always used to miss my brothers when they were away on tour so I'd say, 'I'm never going to leave you Mum'. I wanted to be an artist. I was drawing morning, noon and night."

Family features much on The Script's third album. On Valentine's Day 2009, O'Donoghue's father died suddenly at 63 from an aneurysm. He now has a big rose tattoo on his arm, to remember him. A few months earlier, Mark Sheehan's mother had died from cancer.

It took until this album for the pair to write about their grief, on the song If You Could See Me Now. Both knocked back some whiskey, then Sheehan took one end of the room while O'Donoghue took the other, and the pair wrote alternate verses.

"It was an incredibly hard song to write ... As soon as I started writing the lyrics, I started crying. We're men, we're 30 years old, and there's not a lot of people out there that would be open enough to say it in the same way as The Script. That song was more important for Mark than it was for me because I'm very open about my emotions, but he's not at all, so to hear him sum up in one verse what I've been waiting for him to say to me was an incredible moment. That really is the power of music."

Now, of course, being able to blend in with the crowds is no longer an option for The Script. O'Donoghue remembers how when he took on the role in The Voice, his bandmates teased him that he would be harangued by fans - and chuckles at how they, too, are no longer anonymous.

"It's gone up a whole other level for them."

Aside from celebrity status, that's about all that's changed for O'Donoghue who is still wearing the quintessential rock star black skinny jeans and still living in the same London bedsit. "The boys have all moved, but I'm still in the shitty bedsit. This isn't going to be forever so why would you say, 'Oh, I've got a bit of money now, let's go live in The Hamptons'? A lot of my friends don't have money, and I would hate to lose touch with all of my friends and family." He surveys the plaques and platinum discs lining the walls of his publicist's office. Is this what his bedsit looks like? "I don't have any plaques on my wall; I'm not into it at all. When you're dead and buried, that's for other people to celebrate your life. I'm living it."

I’ve Got A Face Like A Foot. But Being On The Voice Gets Me The Girls

Coach ... Danny O'Donoghue

THE Voice coach Danny O’Donoghue says he loves his newfound telly fame — as it’s given him a massive boost with the ladies.

Despite The Script frontman already having multi-platinum selling records, being “that bloke sitting next to Tom Jones” has seen his pulling power soar.

The 32-year-old singer, who split from long-term girlfriend Irma Mali in June last year, revealed: “Being on TV is like an accelerator.

Close ... with Bo Bruce after last year's final of The Voice

The girls in the street that would pass you by are the same girls stopping and going fanatical over you. And you get a real kick out of it. Do I kiss the girls? Of course I do. I’m a living, breathing man.

“If I weren’t in the public eye I wouldn’t get the same action I do now — I’ve got a face like a foot.”

Danny is back on BBC1 tonight, joining fellow coaches Tom Jones, Jessie J and Will.i.am for the start of The Voice’s second series.

He has just completed a UK tour with the Script and Danny reckons being on the road is the perfect time to be single. He says he struggled when he had a girlfriend waiting back home in Dublin.

The singer-songwriter explained: “It was like I was leaving half of myself behind. So being single for the past year has been really liberating — I’m definitely mingling.”

And despite enjoying the company of his adoring fans, Danny admits that all the attention can be “a bit intense”. He added: “I’ll wake up in the morning and there’ll be 30 girls outside the bus wanting to take photos with me.

“But it’s not like these women are cockroaches, they’re welcome. And half of them will be really good-looking. We’ve been blessed with great fans in that respect.”

When his fans aren’t hanging outside Danny’s trailer, they’re thinking up inventive ways to catch his eye when he’s on stage. He revealed: “I remember this one show — I look out at the front row and there are these girls in Danny masks with their tops off.

“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. We get a lot of knickers thrown on stage too — I could give Tom Jones a run for his money.”

But life on the road can take its toll. Danny said: “It’s amazing, but it’s a weird existence. A lot of people have likened it to being in jail.

“I think that’s why a lot of rock stars take to drink and drugs — to take their mind off the craziness.

“We definitely get up to some rock star antics, we just don’t take them to VIP spots where people can take a picture of you. We embarrass ourselves behind closed doors rather than in public.

“Some artists call photographers to take pictures of them falling out of clubs. That’s the last thing I want to see the next morning.”

But something he wouldn’t say no to is dating a contestant, confessing: “I wouldn’t rule out dating a fan or a contestant — ever.”

Danny was rumoured to be having a relationship with Bo Bruce, 28, who he mentored in the last series. But he has always denied it.

Hit ... adoring fans flock towards Danny at a Script gig

He said: “It was one of those moments that everyone was like, ‘There’s something going on there’. But there’s nothing behind it.”

The rumours swirled after Danny split with Irma. It was a difficult time for him, but he took refuge in his music. He said: “I’d escape from the pain of the break-up by going into the studio. I could deal with it but it was all those crazy rumours of who I was dating.”

The Script’s last single, If You Could See Me Now, is dedicated to his father, who died of a stomach aneurysm at 63.

Danny said: “He was talking to me in the morning and dead by night-time. I didn’t realise I was getting precious time with my dad.

“I’d been away for ten years. I got to know my father as a man. It was, ‘I know that he loves me — but does he like me?’.

“Music got me through. Everything he taught me went into the album, every piece of pain. The only justification for pain is art

You couldn't see me and I couldn't see you': Blind singer wins The Voice judges' hearts with "amazing" audition

Andrea Begley, 26, has only 10 percent vision and had to be helped onstage for her performance

BBC talent show The Voice will kick off this weekend with an unforgettable audition from a blind singer who cannot see the judges reactions.

Andrea Begley, 26, from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, only has 10 percent vision and has to be helped onstage for her performance by the floor manager.

She began losing her sight at the age of five through glaucoma and can now barely see at all.

Andrea said: “I found I had a condition called glaucoma which is pressure in my eyes and it has meant that I have lost 90 percent of my vision. Glaucoma is a degenerative condition so once your sight is gone there is no means of getting it back. I had to adapt things for example playing with my friends and watching TV, ordinary things that you take for granted.

“Music really became my get out and it was a natural progression really.

“When I sing it takes me to somewhere else, I feel a sense of relaxation. I can do it without any assistance or issues and that is why it is so important. This is the biggest challenge I have done.”

After an emotional performance singing Angel, judge Danny O’Donoghue says her audition was “amazing”.

He then quizzes her about coming on the show and entering the blind auditions where the judges cannot see the acts until they push a button to pick them to go through to the next round.

Andrea explained: “I came on the Voice for the very basic reason you couldn’t see me and I couldn’t see you.

“For once I am on a level playing field with all the other contestants.”

Andrea then had to ask the judges afterwards if their chairs turned as “she couldn’t really tell”.

Tom Jones said “Your voice is so beautiful. I had to let you know that. We feel emotional about the way you sing.”

Jesse J added: “I applaud how courageous you are and you should be proud of yourself right now.”

Viewers will find out on Saturday night which judges turned their chairs for Andrea and who she picks as her coach if she gets through.

Other highlights on the first episode include Welsh singer and care worker Ashley Morgan, 26, whose dad performed with Tom Jones and Will.i.Am lookalike Matt Henry, 34.

The 95 minute show kicks off at 7pm on Saturday and will go head-to-head with Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway on ITV.

It opens with a medley by the judges – Danny, Tom Jones, Jesse J and Will.i.am – which Beeb bosses hope will wow fans.

Referring to the auditions, Tom Jones: “What I listen for is originality. I like the ones that hit me with a natural sounding voice.”

Jesse J said: “I want to hear someone with potential that gives you goosebumps.”

The Voice 2013: Danny O'Donoghue Warns His Rival Coaches

The Voice UK coach Danny O’Donoghue has said that the talent on the show’s auditions will blow people away when the series starts at the weekend.

Danny, one of four superstar coaches on the programme’s panel, said that the he thinks he has a good chance of winning the completion with his team.

Each of the four coaches – Danny, Jessie J, Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones – will start the competition by searching for twelve performers to make up their team, who will be whittled down to just three to compete in the live shows.

“The talent on the show has blown me away and I really do think I have found three or four people who have a good shot at the title,” Danny said. “I am over the moon with my choices for my team.”

He bragged about his team: “They are all accomplished singers and they have already been through the mill, so I want to train them on performing to bring out the best in them.”

Discussing his coaching style, Danny revealed he wouldn’t be imposing any strict rules on his singers, but rather would be just there to offer support and advice.

“Everyone is their own person. Once you put the shackles on them, they break free even more,” he explained. “But if someone has a bad time, I am definitely there to offer a shoulder to cry on.”

And he warned the other coaches: “I may be the wild card but don’t ever underestimate me.”

Jessie J and Will.i.am fight over Danny O'Donoghue

The Voice Coaches are already at war after Jessie J and Will.i.am had a furious bust up during filming of the new series.

The two telly stars will be seen going head to head on Saturdays' first episode, when Jessie accuses Will of putting her down.

The spat occurred when both Jessie and Danny O'Donoghue spun their chairs around for a singer - and Will jumped in to urge the act to pick The Script singer pal to be their mentor.

Jessie fumed: "He never wants people to pick me, just so you know." After the audition was over, Tom Jones had to intervene, then mediate, between the warring parties  Jessie told him: "I think it's unfair to influence the artists on their decision " Tom told Jessie "Not to worry about it." And to keep fighting her corner. An insider said: "Matters got heated. Jessie is already pitched against Will and Danny with the whole series still to come."

'The Voice' UK Coaches 'Banned From Describing Chairs As Spinning'

Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Danny O'Donoghue and will.i.am must use the word "turning" instead reports The Sun

Danny and Tom on 'The Voice' series 2

The rule is said to be part of a number of "format points" that producers have enforced for the second series.

Hopefuls must always be called "artists", while they must never describe themselves as "judges".

The BBC reportedly had to implement the rules as part of the £22 million two-year deal to buy the Voice format from Dutch production company Talpa.

An insider said: "Producers have given the coaches a series of strict pointers about what they can and can't say.

"One of the most important ones is they must never say that their red chairs spin - they only turn. So if Jessie hits her red button for an act - who are always called artists and never contestants - she should say, 'I turned my chair for you'.

Jessie J during 'The Voice' blind auditions

"The red chairs only go round 180 degrees so the creators of the show say they can't be described as spinning, even though that's what most viewers say.

"It may sound silly but these format points are really important as the BBC signed up to them when it nabbed the show and the coaches have been told they can't deviate from them. The Voice prides itself on its difference to The X Factor, so coaches have been told the emphasis in their feedback to acts must be positive.

"There is no meanness here - and that comes from the fact that everyone who auditions can sing and there are no joke acts."

The four stars have also reportedly been instructed to be more enthusiastic on the BBC One show.

The source said: "The coaches have been encouraged to get out of their chairs and greet the acts after their auditions, whether they are successful or not."

Sir Tom Jones suggested that the coaches were given suggested lines during the first series last year.

Look Out Ladies There Is A Look Alike On The Loose!

Users on social media had today suggested the handsome Irishman had been spending time in Folkestone ahead of the new series of The Voice.

CALM the stampedes, put down the cameras and relax everyone, rumours the Script's frontman Danny O'Donoghue is in Folkestone this morning have been quashed. As we all know he is in Seoul with Mark and Glen.

So a few words of advice for our look alike.
Either......

A) Let us all know who you are and be prepared to be under siege and chased/followed everywhere. (But please do not forget the amount of adoring females who will be falling at your feet!)

B) Hide for the rest of  your life. Do not leave the house, If you do put a bag over your head and go and have cosmetic surgery to change your appearance.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!

'The Voice UK': Judge Danny O'Donoghue Speaks Out

Will.i.am, Tom Jones, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue speak about series two of the BBC talent show

The first series of TV singing contest ‘The Voice UK’ divided critics and has so far failed to launch a new musical star. This year will be different, as the returning coaches explain.

On lessons learnt from the first series…

‘Last year, we had a girl who got four “no’s”. She went away and took all our advice, came back this year and got four “yeses”. She really learnt something from being on the show.’

On higher standards for the second series…

‘The peaks and troughs are a lot bigger this year. We’ve had 30,000 people audition this time – they know the show, so to see the level of confidence, that people know they’ll be painted in the best possible light, means standards are really high.’

On this year’s format changes…

‘Everyone felt the blinds were one of the most exciting parts of last year, so we’ve tinkered with it. They keep the excitement all the way through – fewer live shows, more blind auditions. And the steals are great! Last year, some artists left the show earlier than we would have liked. This time we can put our money where our mouth is.’

On why he would compete in ‘The Voice’…

‘I wouldn’t fancy my chances, but I would absolutely want to enter. No other singing show can guarantee that you’ll go in the same person as you come out, that you won’t be edited to seem better or worse. It’s credible – people do it for the right reasons.’

On giving people an unrealistic impression of the music industry…

‘I don’t think “The Voice” gives kids an unrealistic impression. It’s fresh and honest. Other shows, if kids take it to the playground and everyone’s going “off! off! off!” at a kid who sings bad, you’re going to destroy that kid. We try to give bad news in a good way. The blind auditions are the best chance you’re ever going to get on an entertainment show to get a good deal.’

7 Things You Need To Know About Series 2

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii,

Unless you’ve been stuck up a tree for the last couple of weeks, you’ll know that The Voice UK is returning to your screens (and your ears) THIS SATURDAY. We don’t want to give too much away but we thought you might like to know seven things to get you in the mood for the new series.

1) YOU CAN PLAY ALONG WITH THE SHOW

This year, we’ve launched an all-new, all-dope game called The Voice Predictor. On Saturday night, you’ll be able to play the game LIVE during the show by predicting which team each artist will join. You can even play in the week by predicting who will make it through in each Saturday’s show. Why not go and have a play now?

2) THE COACHES WILL BE PERFORMING TOGETHER

Move the coffee table out of the way and get ready to dance around your living room because our four superduperstar coaches will be opening series 2 with a barnstorming group performance.

3) SEE JESSIE’S HAIR BEFORE SHE SHAVED IT OFF

The Blind Auditions were filmed not long before Jessie J bravely shaved her head for Comic Relief. We think her new look is great but if you miss her sleek, long locks, make sure you watch Saturday’s show to reminisce about those fine follicles.

4) THERE WILL BE TISSUES

We’ve been lucky enough to see episode 1 (are you jealous?) and we’ve only just stopped sobbing. Make sure you’re wearing waterproof mascara and you’ve got a box of tissues handy because we got emotional at least THREE TIMES during the first episode. Sniff...

5) ALL FOUR COACHES TURN THREE TIMES IN EPISODE 1

Three of the acts in episode 1 are so mind-blowingly, spectacularly awesome that they sent all four of our coaches into a spin. It’s a rare feat but when it happens, it’s very exciting...

6) “WE’RE GOING TO WAR!”

The coaches are determined to win the best artists for their teams this year so things get a little...heated between them sometimes. They’re all ready for battle and are taking no prisoners. It’s a bit like Braveheart... but no-one dies. In the words of Danny O’Donoghue, “I’m not here to enjoy the competition. I’m here to destroy the competition.”

7) WILL.I.AM IS WILL.I.AM

Our favourite American, Mr i.am, is more unpredictable than ever this year. Keep your eyes peeled in the first episode for a glimpse into his mad world. As Jessie J says, “I think he’s lost the plot!”

The musicians have narrowed the choice down to six songs and posted a poll on the band's official Facebook.com page.

Followers are asked to pick their favourite, and the winning track will be released as the group's next chart offering.

A message posted with the poll reads, "Thank you for an incredible Uk tour guys. Without you we couldn't make it happen! We're just deciding what our next single should be... Out of the below which track (sic) would you like us to release. (sic)"

THE SCRIPT STAR DANNY O'DONOGHUE GETS A BOOBS BONUS FROM GIRL FANS

Danny’s role in the Beeb show has seen The Script’s fame grow

DANNY O'DONOGHUE has received an unexpected boobs bonus after becoming The Voice’s most charming coach.

His female fans keep whipping off their tops whenever he’s on stage with his band The Script.

The singer and his bandmates – guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power – struggle to keep straight faces as they discuss their flashing fans.

As I join them in Brighton ahead of the end of their arena tour, Danny, 32, reveals: “There’s a few flashers now who wait till the last song and get their boobs out.”

Mark adds, with a glint in his eye: “It gets really funny when they do it together.

“They plan the moment and then take their tops off. We’re trying to do a show, for f***’s sake. A song like Hall Of Fame is not really a boob song, but that’s the way it is.

“It’s become a thing where we take a Twitter stage pic every night and the fans are all writing the rudest signs possible. It’s a terrible job, really hard.”

With two No 1 albums under their belts and their latest, #3, only just pipped to the post at No 2, The Script are rivalling U2 as one of the biggest Irish bands in the world.

They credit Danny’s move into TV for taking them from a radio act to one that has been discovered by a wider public.

“There’s been a surge of people wanting to know what’s going on with Danny’s band and realising: ‘Oh that’s them,’” says Mark, 36.

Danny adds: “You feel like you let your hair down emotionally – that’s what a Script gig is like.”

With the second series of The Voice starting on Saturday, he is looking forward to boozy backstage antics with Tom Jones, 72, hair-raisers with Jessie J, 24, and ticking off will.i.am, 38, for poor time-keeping.

“Tom gets the biggest dressing room – he’s Tom Jones for f***’s sake,” laughs Danny.

“At the end of the night inevitably we’re going to be in his room anyway. We drink in there all the time. He’s a great guy.”

The Script are giving Jessie’s new shaved head a big thumbs-up.

Danny insists: “I think she should’ve gone bald a long time ago. She looks great.”

Mark agrees. He says: “As a bald man to a bald woman, she looks good. She has the right head shape for it.”

While Danny put his hand in his pocket and sponsored Jessie’s brave move for Comic Relief, he also let her and The Voice host Holly Willoughby, 32, wax his chest for the charity.

He admitted: “It didn’t take long. In fairness that’s not a bad trade-off, getting your hair ripped off by those two hotties.”

Mark chuckles: “He’d look like a dead spider with legs if he shaved his hair off.”

Making friends with will.i.am on the show resulted in the collaboration Hall Of Fame, which gave The Script their first No 1 single.

Mark reveals: “When we performed it together in America on the Ellen show, will got there at the last second. The curtain was about to go up and we were like: ‘Please, please turn up.’ Then he did. It was live.”

Taking their latest tour around the world is next on the agenda for the band, who play the Virgin Media V Festival in August in Staffordshire and Chelmsford and June’s Isle Of Wight Festival.

Glen, 32, confirmed: “We’ve put a lot of money into this tour, the visual side of it, and it’s paying off now. We put the live stream on for St Patrick’s Day and got 90,000 viewers.”

Mark adds: “We’re a bit more relaxed now. We were a bit like rabbits in the headlights at first, because the stages were getting massively bigger. It took a bit of getting used to. Now everybody is comfortable in their own skin.”

The Script’s latest album #3, featuring new single If You Could See Me Now and Hall Of Fame, is out now.

Danny O'Donoghue And Will.i.am On Naughty Chair

The final straw came when The Voice star fell off during a pre-recorded audition.

Bosses have rapped Will.i.am for persistently standing on his big spinning judge’s chair, citing “health and safety” concerns.

The final straw came when The Voice star  fell off during a pre-recorded audition, although he was unhurt.

Will said: “One time when the chair turned around, I stood up on it.

“They pulled me aside and said, ‘just in case it falls or breaks’. But I was like, ‘isn’t this thing secure?’”

Confirming he had also been warned about it, fellow judge Danny O’Donoghue said: “They’re not for standing on. It’s health and safety.”

The new series – back on BBC1 this Saturday – will see more blind auditions, with live shows cut to just three plus a new knockout round.

Will.i.am also said viewers will see big rows between him and fellow judge Jessie J, adding: “She is a firecracker.” Host Reggie Yates confirmed: “Jessie is scary. I wouldn’t mess with her.

Glen Power Has No Personal Wikipedia Page

Some may say you've hit the big time when you have your own Wikipedia page, but Glen Power from The Script does not have his own personal one, while bandmates Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan do.

On finding out his does not not have one, Glen said: "This is not on lads, why don't I have a page?"

However, Mark believes they're always full of untrue facts anyway, saying: "It's always wrong anyway. There's terrible stuff on Wikipedia.

"I don't know why I have a page. I need to get rid of my Wikipedia page. Glen however still joking asked why don''t have a Wikipedia page?."

Danny even went as far as to make up his own story about how the band formed.

"The Script started in 1975, in Dublin Zoo when Glen was trying to reach over to the Gorillas, meanwhile Mark..." he said, as an example of what he expects to read on the site. Glen still complained he didn't have a page feigning upset Danny told Glen he would write him a page, followed by him joking in 'street talk'

Danny O'Donoghue Admits He Is Open To Dating 'The Voice' Contestants

Danny O'Donoghue admits he is open to dating contestants The Voice UK coach Danny, who was romantically linked to contestant Bo Bruce during last year's series, has revealed he is not dating any of the musical hopefuls this time round.

The second series is currently being filmed and although none of the performers have caught star Danny's eye, there's no saying an on-screen romance couldn’t happen again. "I wouldn't rule out dating a fan or a contestant, no I wouldn't," he said.

Speaking about Bo's musical career The Script singer said, "Bo's single actually went live today, it's called Save Me, and the album's out in a month's time," he said, speaking at The Voice press launch. "We're directing the second single called Alive, which we co-wrote together." "It's an amazing song," he added.

There was no hiding Danny and Bo's on-camera chemistry and off-camera flirtation as the duo were spotted together on nights out in the first series, smoking and drinking in capital hotspots like Groucho Club.

Danny denied rumours they ever dated and says he spent time after the show trying to win back his ex-girlfriend of four years, Lithuanian-born model Irma Mali, but he remains single. He claimed his closeness to Bo was a publicity stunt."We decided to let the story run to keep her name in the papers so that she was still in the public sphere when she released a single," he admitted.

Bo is not the only singer Danny has collaborated with through the show. This year's series features a round of 'steals' where coaches can 'steal' each other's losing artists and take them on for their own team, instead of sending them home.

"We all stole off Jessie," said Sir Tom Jones, the most experienced coach of fellow judge Jessie J. "She let us know that." Danny and fellow coach will.i.am took advantage of their 'steals' and coaxed acts into the recording studio. "People that Jessie are kicking off, me and will are like, come on, let's go make a record," said Danny.

The two mentors also collaborated after filming The Voice to release a new song, Hall of Fame. "Danny wrote it way before the show but then we worked on it and made it fresh," said will. "He came to Los Angeles and stayed down the street from my old ghetto, met my brother, tried to get me to do some crazy stuff," said will. "Yeah but I couldn't stay in his house because I'm Irish," joked Danny. "I would have brought my whole family to stay."

The Voice 2013: Visually Impaired Glaucoma Sufferer Andrea Begley Shines For Danny O’Donoghue

PLEASE BE AWARE THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A SPOILER TO THIS YEAR'S SHOW. PLEASE DO NOT READ ON IF YOU WISH TO KEEP IT AS A COMPLETE SURPRISE.

Danny O’Donoghue was well impressed by singer Andrea Begley at her recent blind audition for The Voice and not just because she’s Irish.

Andrea travelled from her home in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland to BBC HQ in Salford earlier this year to try out for the BBC show and she performed Sarah McLachlan’s ‘Angel’ for Danny, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Will.i.am as they faced away from the stage.

However, Begley had overcome more than most performers to be there as she revealed that she has lost 95% of her vision, after being diagnosed with eye disease glaucoma as a child.

The brave young singer had to be led on stage by a member of staff and shown where to stand, before she began singing. Her rendition of the emotional song made Danny’s hairs stand on end and we can reveal that The Script star was the first coach to turn and offer Andrea a place in his team.

However, as the coaches began speaking to Begley after her performance, she had to ask them about the result, as she couldn’t see the stars properly and didn’t know which, if any, turned to face her during the song.

Andrea has some TV experience which she gained before trying out for The Voice and her original song ‘The Message’ reached the final eight of Irish channel RTE’s recent show the HIT.
