The Voice 2013: Visually Impaired Glaucoma Sufferer Andrea Begley Shines For Danny O’Donoghue

PLEASE BE AWARE THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A SPOILER TO THIS YEAR'S SHOW. PLEASE DO NOT READ ON IF YOU WISH TO KEEP IT AS A COMPLETE SURPRISE.

Danny O’Donoghue was well impressed by singer Andrea Begley at her recent blind audition for The Voice and not just because she’s Irish.

Andrea travelled from her home in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland to BBC HQ in Salford earlier this year to try out for the BBC show and she performed Sarah McLachlan’s ‘Angel’ for Danny, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Will.i.am as they faced away from the stage.

However, Begley had overcome more than most performers to be there as she revealed that she has lost 95% of her vision, after being diagnosed with eye disease glaucoma as a child.

The brave young singer had to be led on stage by a member of staff and shown where to stand, before she began singing. Her rendition of the emotional song made Danny’s hairs stand on end and we can reveal that The Script star was the first coach to turn and offer Andrea a place in his team.

However, as the coaches began speaking to Begley after her performance, she had to ask them about the result, as she couldn’t see the stars properly and didn’t know which, if any, turned to face her during the song.

Andrea has some TV experience which she gained before trying out for The Voice and her original song ‘The Message’ reached the final eight of Irish channel RTE’s recent show the HIT.
