I’ve Got A Face Like A Foot. But Being On The Voice Gets Me The Girls

Coach ... Danny O'Donoghue

THE Voice coach Danny O’Donoghue says he loves his newfound telly fame — as it’s given him a massive boost with the ladies.

Despite The Script frontman already having multi-platinum selling records, being “that bloke sitting next to Tom Jones” has seen his pulling power soar.

The 32-year-old singer, who split from long-term girlfriend Irma Mali in June last year, revealed: “Being on TV is like an accelerator.

The girls in the street that would pass you by are the same girls stopping and going fanatical over you. And you get a real kick out of it. Do I kiss the girls? Of course I do. I’m a living, breathing man.

“If I weren’t in the public eye I wouldn’t get the same action I do now — I’ve got a face like a foot.”

Danny is back on BBC1 tonight, joining fellow coaches Tom Jones, Jessie J and Will.i.am for the start of The Voice’s second series.

He has just completed a UK tour with the Script and Danny reckons being on the road is the perfect time to be single. He says he struggled when he had a girlfriend waiting back home in Dublin.

The singer-songwriter explained: “It was like I was leaving half of myself behind. So being single for the past year has been really liberating — I’m definitely mingling.”

And despite enjoying the company of his adoring fans, Danny admits that all the attention can be “a bit intense”. He added: “I’ll wake up in the morning and there’ll be 30 girls outside the bus wanting to take photos with me.

“But it’s not like these women are cockroaches, they’re welcome. And half of them will be really good-looking. We’ve been blessed with great fans in that respect.”

When his fans aren’t hanging outside Danny’s trailer, they’re thinking up inventive ways to catch his eye when he’s on stage. He revealed: “I remember this one show — I look out at the front row and there are these girls in Danny masks with their tops off.

“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. We get a lot of knickers thrown on stage too — I could give Tom Jones a run for his money.”

But life on the road can take its toll. Danny said: “It’s amazing, but it’s a weird existence. A lot of people have likened it to being in jail.

“I think that’s why a lot of rock stars take to drink and drugs — to take their mind off the craziness.

“We definitely get up to some rock star antics, we just don’t take them to VIP spots where people can take a picture of you. We embarrass ourselves behind closed doors rather than in public.

“Some artists call photographers to take pictures of them falling out of clubs. That’s the last thing I want to see the next morning.”

But something he wouldn’t say no to is dating a contestant, confessing: “I wouldn’t rule out dating a fan or a contestant — ever.”

Danny was rumoured to be having a relationship with Bo Bruce, 28, who he mentored in the last series. But he has always denied it.

He said: “It was one of those moments that everyone was like, ‘There’s something going on there’. But there’s nothing behind it.”

The rumours swirled after Danny split with Irma. It was a difficult time for him, but he took refuge in his music. He said: “I’d escape from the pain of the break-up by going into the studio. I could deal with it but it was all those crazy rumours of who I was dating.”

The Script’s last single, If You Could See Me Now, is dedicated to his father, who died of a stomach aneurysm at 63.

Danny said: “He was talking to me in the morning and dead by night-time. I didn’t realise I was getting precious time with my dad.

“I’d been away for ten years. I got to know my father as a man. It was, ‘I know that he loves me — but does he like me?’.

“Music got me through. Everything he taught me went into the album, every piece of pain. The only justification for pain is art
