The Voice UK: Danny O'Donoghue says show has changed his life

The Voice UK coach Danny O’Donogue has revealed that the show has changed his life as much as has the artists’.

The Script star was a controversial choice for the final spot on the show, with Will Young having originally been offered the role.

However Danny proved a hit, and it’s help shoot him and his band into the limelight more than ever.

“2012 has been the biggest year we’ve had, in all senses of the word,” he said. “People knew the name of the band and the songs but didn’t know us, or they might have seen me on something but didn’t know the name of the band.

“And then The Voice happened. If you didn’t know who I was at the start of it, by the end you were probably sick of me.

“It’s brought our ideology as The Script and as people to the forefront and I think that’s great.”

Speaking to the Daily Star, Danny claimed that the show needed someone like him to sit alongside pop acts like Will.i.am and Jessie J.

He explained: “It would have been a crime not to have someone from a band up there, not just for us to get more recognition, but for bands in general.

“Bands aren’t getting played on radio the way they used to, especially guitar-playing bands.”

And Danny continued: “After The Voice, kids were coming up to me and saying ‘I learned to play guitar like you did on the U2 tune’ or ‘I learned piano like you played on that song.’

“No-one was saying: ‘I learned how to slag off my mates at school,’ which a lot of other shows promote.”

“Other shows”? We wonder what programmes Danny is referring to…
