The Voice UK 2013 champion Andrea Begley’s debut album ‘The Message’ has charted at number 7 – making her the show’s most successful contestant to date.
Earlier this week the 27-year-old was prematurely labelled a flop by The Sun, when they reported that she’d shifted under 2,000 copies of the record after just two days of sales.
However, today Andrea received the good news that she’s now the highest charting Voice UK star, topping the bookies’ favourite to win Leah McFall, who previously made it to number 8 in the singles chart with her cover of ‘I Will Survive’.
She’s also bettered series one finalist Bo Bruce, whose debut album ‘Before I Sleep’ peaked at number 10 in May.
Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Andrea said: “I just want to say a huge thanks to all my fans who have supported my debut album. I really cherish your faith in my voice.”
Andrea’s success will no doubt provide a much-needed boost to The Voice’s credibility after its first winner Leanne Mitchell failed to chart in the top 100.
Its third series will hit screens in January, with new coaches Kylie Minogue and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson replacing Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue.
