Danny O'Donoghue went from being a virtual unknown to a household name when he joined The Voice last year. With his flirty ways and over-enthusiastic dancing. The Script frontman 32, earned his place in our affections. As The Voice goes live this week, we catch up with him to get this backstage gossip....
It's been confirmed The Voice will be back next year. Will you be back in your chair?
"It's coming back, but I haven't said if I am or if I'm not."
Do you not want to return?
"I'm not going to comment."
You're more settled this series....
"Way more settled. Last year we were on a learning curve, but this year everyone is having more fun. I love the show. I LOVE IT!
There have been reports of a fix, with you and Jessie J to 'steal' her contestant Alex Buchanan....
"It's lies. There are things we can't do. The BBC is so transparent, and we have to be too. The story that Jessie and I went into a corner and had a secret chat about Alex. Who was listening into this conversation? How did anybody hear it? Even if I wanted to steal an act, I'm in the bidding with other people - you can't fix it. everyone has tactics, but it's not a fix."
Are you pleased you got Alex?
"I'm over the moon! It's Jessie's loss."
Who is your biggest competition this year?
"It's at that stage now where favourites are going out. I genuinely thought Alex would go through, and he didn't, which is crazy. I thought he was one of the strongest on Jessie's team. It's the same with will's team - I was fuming when Liam Tamne got kicked off because he's so good. He'd even quit his job and now he's gone."
And are you excited about the live shows starting?
"Ye's. It's gonna be really good. I've got a lot of stuff on with The Script at the moment - we're recording our 4th album - So I'm gonna be busy."
Is it nice to get back to the day job with The Script?
"It's lovely. I enjoy doing both TV and live stuff but performing is what I do best."
Do you worry you won't be able to give The Voice your full attention?
"I've always said this is what makes the show unique - the contestants have coaches who have just come off stage themselves and can tell them what it's really like."
How do you feel about having mentored one of last year's most successful acts, Bo Bruce?
"THE most Successful.... She's done Brilliantly. We mentor the acts on the show, but afterwards it's up to them. As much as we prepare them, it's fingers crossed that their boat will float. But it seems like it has for Bo. I thought she should have won."
There's been a bit of flirting between you and some of the contestants. Has anyone in particular caught your eye this year?
"I'm not dating any contestants and nor do I want to. Some people have made out that I'm using the show as my own personal Take Me Out, to meet women. It's ridiculous. They are blind auditions. How am I supposed to see them, unless it's Blind Date?!? It came about as I said I would date a fan. There are so many fans of The Script that I think I'd be cutting my arm off if I said I wouldn't date one. Fans, yes; contestants no, because I know how many column inches it would get!"
