Danny O’Donoghue is a great coach on The Voice. He doesn’t just help his contestants practice their performances but he assists them with song choices, produces their arrangements and introduces them to as many industry contacts as he has, but once the series ends, it will be a different matter.
The Irish star is heading into this week’s final with Belfast born singer Andrea Begley, who won the public vote and saw Karl Michael eliminated last weekend.
Danny is hoping that after the show, she can manage to carve a career for herself in the music industry but he won’t be working his fingers to the bone trying to help her.
The Script frontman has his own band and his own career to be getting on with and while he doesn’t mind giving Andrea the benefit of his experience, he told The Sun that whether she wins or not, the success of her future career is very much in her own hands.
Danny explained:
“The misconception is that it’s up to me to make my acts famous, but we’re not a record company. We don’t have loads of money to be throwing around on acts. Universal are the ones with the contracts.
“We set up the platform and give them their own lane into the industry, but at the end of the day it’s up to the person themselves.
“None of us got here because a label threw money at us.”
Despite her coach’s words of warning, Begley seems elated to be through to the final and tweeted her fans after Saturday’s show saying:
“I keep having to pinch myself! I’m in the final of The VoiceUK"
She even got to tag along to the Isle of Wight Festival with her mentor and added:
“Still haven’t come down from the high that was Isle Of Wight festival. Best timeever with The Script”
