The Voice: Danny O’Donoghue says he couldn't fix the show even if he tried

The Script star and his fellow coaches are banned from wandering the Beeb to ensure there is no bias in the early stages of the BBC show

There’s a mountain of red tape at The Voice, according to miffed Danny O’Donoghue.

So he reckons there’s absolutely NO way he could fix the BBC talent show – even if he tried. Which, he insists, he hasn’t.

The Script star, 32, and his fellow coaches on The Voice are banned from wandering the Beeb to ensure there is no bias in the early stages of the BBC show.

“I can’t walk down a corridor during the blind auditions,” he ranted.

“If one person is seen by a coach before the blind auditions, they don’t get to go on the show. There’s segregation between us. It’s SO not a fix. They don’t allow us to see them.

“Even if I don’t know they’re a singer, the fact I laid eyes on them means they’re off the show. It’s crazy. That’s what you have to do – it’s the BBC.”

Danny, who was speaking backstage yesterday at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Derry, where The Script performed, added: “Hand on heart, we’re a credible show. The things we can’t do... the BBC is so transparent, so we have to be transparent.”

Yesterday, reports suggested that Danny and fellow coach Jessie J had done a deal for him to “steal” Voice hopeful Alex Buchanan.

“Apparently me and Jessie had a secret conversation about Alex,” scoffs Danny. “But my point is: if it’s a secret conversation, how did anybody hear it? It’s lies. All lies.” Ooh er.

“Even if I wanted to steal an act I’m still in the bidding with three other people – you can’t fix it. Chances are, that person on stage doesn’t know and might go with Will. There’s tactics going on from everyone but it’s not a fix.”

Pressing on with another controversial subject, stud Danny also insisted he would never date a contestant. (Which is a surprise considering his rumoured romance last year with Bo Bruce).

Though he said he wouldn’t mind teaming up with a fan.

“There’s so many Script fans, I think I’d be cutting my arm off if I said I wouldn’t date one. Fans yes, show no. Because I know how many column inches it gets.”
