The Voice’s First Live Show Set To clash With Britain’s Got Talent Final

BBC singing contest The Voice and ITV’s talent show rival Britain’s Got Talent are set to go head-to-head once again this year, with The Voice’s first live show set to air the same night as BGT’s grand final.

Last year the first series of The Voice hit screens with plenty of fanfare, but most of the headlines focused on the show’s Saturday night rivalry with BGT.

With BGT head judge and X Factor boss Simon Cowell fanning the flames, a ratings battle quickly commenced. While The Voice triumphed in the early stages – the blind audition rounds proved a ratings hit – BGT finished on top, with the judging duo of Cowell and David Walliams turning out to be a particular success for viewers.

Now it looks like the two broadcasters are steeling themselves for another ratings battle, with The Voice’s first live show scheduled to air the same night as the BGT final.

A source told The Sun: ‘Putting The Voice’s first live show up against the Britain’s Got Talent final is a bold move.

‘But The Voice is coming back stronger this year and bosses are confident any teething problems experienced last time have been erased.’

A BBC spokesman said: ‘The Voice series 2 live shows will start on June 8. We aren’t aware of a date for the Britain’s Got Talent final.’

While it’s unclear exactly what time both shows will air, the BGT final is normally a fairly lengthy affair so the two shows are almost certain to clash at some point.

This could prove risky for the BBC, who will want to retain their prime-time crown after the last series of Strictly Come Dancing regularly trounced reality juggernaut The X Factor in the ratings.

Last year viewers deserted The Voice during the show’s live rounds, but BBC One controller Danny Cohen recently revealed that the show would be undergoing a serious overhaul in a bid to retain strong audience figures.

‘We’re going to do less live shows, we’re going to do more blind auditions, more battles and a bit less live, that’s the fundamental difference,’ he said in November.

Danny O’Donoghue, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Will.i.am will all return to the judging panel, while Holly Willoughby has once again signed on to host.
