THE SCRIPT STAR DANNY O’DONOGHUE IS COOL ON BRIT AWARDS

GENEROUS Danny O’Donoghue would be happy to see Alabama Shakes or fun. nab the International Group BRIT Award next month rather than his own mob The Script.

The singer, whose No 1 smash Hall Of Fame was Playlist’s Single of 2012, wants to share the love that such an accolade can bring.

Danny, 32, told me: “I was talking to a lot of people when I was on holiday over Christmas and it seems the more awards you get the more complacent you start to become.

“We’ve always been pipped at it for whatever reason but it’s never stopped us from going on and being successful.

“The stage we’re at now – Hall of Fame has gone platinum in America, we’re No 1 in Germany – I say don’t give us the award, give it to someone who is more deserving, a younger band who need the help. We don’t need the help. Finally we’ve got a bit of recognition – but we’re rocking and rolling with or without awards.”

The Irishman would however jump at the chance to perform on the bill alongside One Direction, Plan B and Mumford & Sons at London’s O2 Arena on February 20.

He admitted: “I haven’t a clue if they’re going to let us perform.

“That’s why I went along to the launch last week – to press palms, apply some pressure and get somebody in a headlock.

“But seriously, we had a fantastic year in 2012 and it’s just nice to get the nod.”

Personally I’d love to see The Script on the bill.

They’re an impressive live act and their third album #3 is the best yet.

A 2013 festival headline slot is due to be announced soon, along with a March UK arena tour kicking off worldwide dates.
