The Script rescheduled their New York show and donated the proceeds to victims of superstorm Sandy because the Irish rockers have a family connection to the devastated area of Long Island.
The band was due to play in Long Island, New York on 5th December, but they moved the show forward to 8th November after Hurricane Sandy crippled America's East Coast last month (October 12th).
They booked the show for one of the band's rare days off, and even created a special T-shirt to sell at the Paramount Theatre venue in Huntington to raise funds for aid efforts in the local area.
Frontman Danny O'Donoghue now reveals the band's drummer Glen Power has family living in Long Island and they felt obliged to help out.
He tells music website Billboard.com, "(It was) supposed to be a rest day... How could we rest when so many were in such need? America has been so good to us and has enabled us to have a global career. We felt we had to do something to show our appreciation and give back and help... We hope that by stepping forward, others will do the same. And, we hope we (brought) some much-needed fun and enabled the people dealing with such a loss to escape and enjoy themselves for a bit."
