Happy reading: The Script’s firms cash in on global success

Dublin band The Script have seen the cash at two firms controlled by its members increasing sevenfold to €2.2m.

The band — led by Danny O’Donoghue — are in the middle of a world tour and recently reached No 1 in Britain with their single, Hall of Fame taken from their new album, #3.

Accounts lodged by Madnotes Entertainment to Companies House in Britain, show cash rose from £84,266 (€104,333) to £988,735 in the 12 months to the end of Mar 2011. Accumulated profits rose more than sevenfold from £60,394 to £428,741.

At Madnotes Publishing, a second company, cash increased from £169,148 to £824,704.

The accounts are abridged and the firms are not required to provide a revenue figure or how much it paid its directors or staff during the year.

The Script is made up of O’Donoghue, guitarist Mark Sheehan, and Glen Power, drummer.

The band only released their first album four years ago, selling more than two million copies worldwide.

Over the past four years, they have sold four million albums and nine million singles.

Their second album, Science & Faith, entered the charts at No 3 in the US and spawned a massive radio hit, For the First Time.

Underlining the growing popularity of the three-member band, the group sold over 100,000 tickets for their current world tour within one hour of the tickets going on sale in September.

In response to the overwhelming demand for tickets, the band added two extra shows at The O2 in Dublin for next February.

Last year, the band sold out at The Aviva Stadium and performed in front of 50,000 people.

Earlier this year, the profile of the band was heightened with millions of viewers in Ireland and Britain watching O’Donoghue act as one of the judges on the UK version of The Voice
