THE SCRIPT REVEAL THE SECRET OF THEIR MASSIVE CHART HIT

CHART-TOPPING pop-rockers The Script reveal heartbreak and booze inspired the success of their new album.

Singer Danny O'Donoghue is still coming to terms with the early death of his father Shay from an aneurysm three years ago aged just 63.

The Voice judge admitted he had to get drunk before he could pour his feelings out on new song If You Could See Me Now from latest album #3.

Danny, 31, told me: "Dad taught me that music is a home for your pain. He told me not to keep my feelings inside me, because he knew it'd f*** me up.

"But I'd been a mess in the studio for three weeks leading up to writing that song."

Eventually, guitarist Mark Sheehan brought whiskey in to get the song started. Danny recalled: "We each had a couple of glasses and I just started writing.

"It'll be tough to sing that one live, but people need to see that it's OK to show that you're hurt."

Mark, 35, and Danny often have ferocious rows - and the frontman admits The Script are often on the verge of splitting up.

Danny revealed: "It's got close to being serious loads of times. If anyone from the label witnesses us fighting, they're in agony, because at those moments we f***ing hate each other.

"But 10 minutes later, it's all forgotten. I love Mark, but you wouldn't think that if you saw us after a bad gig.

"It's never come to blows, but we have proper screaming rows over breakfast. It's always to better the band."

At least Danny doesn't want any hip-hop wars, despite rapping on the new album.

He laughed: "I'm really not a rapper, I'm just singing very fast. Anyway, I don't want beef with anybody."

Play nicely, fella.
