These three local lads know exactly what they're up to. "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if, instead of doing the Aviva again, we go back to the start," they might have thought. "Be a good buzz -- play in a tiny club in town, you know, give something back to the fans."
And so it was that the promo trip landed in a tiny club. In their hometown. And the fans got something back.
Cut through the PR tape, however, and you'll find that lead singer O'Donoghue and his men have arrived home with a sense of urgency that is every bit as infectious as the band's finely tuned, hip-hop flavoured pop grooves.
They're a little over-excited (they always are). And it's quite scary how energetic that O'Donoghue fella can get (for the rousing You Won't Feel a Thing, young Danny ends up on the balcony).
There's also something about this show which screams 'Put us back in the stadium!' Indeed, it's a tasty teaser for what might come next. But the important thing in all of this is that Danny, Mark and Glen (the latter an excellent drummer and the beating heart of this unit) are terrific players.
The new tunes will take a while to sink in (except maybe current single Hall of Fame), but it's a tight and skillfully executed set.
Sure, there are times when it all looks and sounds a little too ... American. But just as you begin to worry if it all might come crashing down, The Script crack open a hit such as Breakeven, or the fabulous The Man Who Can't Be Moved, which is almost an anthem for fans and all is right again.
