Danny O'Donoghue 'Critical' Of The Voice Contestants Performing His Songs

Sir Tom Jones is the only mentor who can bare to hear his
music sung back to him on show

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - well, try telling that to Danny O'Donoghue who can't bear to hear his own songs sung back to him.

The Voice mentor and pop star hates it when contestants on the show perform one of The Script's songs - and he's not alone.

His fellow mentors Jessie J and Will.i.am are also unimpressed if one of the auditionees sings one of their hits and it's only Sir Tom Jones who actually doesn't mind it!

"Tom Jones is the only coach who really enjoys hearing his songs being covered by the acts," a source told the Metro newspaper. "The others find it difficult to listen to as it’s very rare an act can get it right and do the song justice.

In fact, fans of the show will see this for themselves tonight when one wannabe sings the band's song For The First Time and Danny isn't left impressed.

"Danny especially can be very critical when an act comes out and sings The Script songs."

In scenes to air this evening, he says: "Singing a coach’s song can go either way. You’re on a tightrope, you really are.

"If you are going to attempt a song so like the original, any variation or deviation from the melody in somebody’s mind is going to be deemed a mistake."

Jessie J also has something to say when a girl sings her hit Who You Are and is told by the singer: "You always have to either do a version that is really going to stand out from the original, or do something that is gonna be as good if not better."
