The Script made many girl’s hearts beat faster last Saturday night. In 2011 the threesome sold out Ancienne Belgique after the world had fallen for the hit We Cry and The Man Who Can’t be Moved in 2008. Their nameless debut album made it to the top of the hit lists, and now their third album #3 (2012) is selling well. Friday Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power played the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome, after the original Heineken Music Hall location appeared to be too small for the Irishmen.
When the lights go out at 10 to 9 the temperature rises as well as the sound level. During the opening song Good Ol’ Days frontman O’Donoghue is all up for it which makes the girls very happy, they’ve probably been waiting for their idols for hours. The screen behind the band shows golden sparkles while the fans sing along loudly and wave when guitarist Sheehan asks for it. We Cry only makes the audience shout louder and it’s very clear that this evening can’t go wrong for the 7000 people present.
The threesome gets the ladies on their side even more when they seem to become emotional with If You Could See me Now, which is about their dark moments when they lost their parents. If You Ever Come Back is dedicated to the audience that melts, but the audience goes wild when the leadsinger asks somebody to phone an ex with Nothing, and then takes over the cellphone to sing to the (probably a) boy.
The audience sing along with all the new songs without effort, word by word, and O’Donoghue manages to draw some more attention with the acoustic I’m Yours, and he even lets people with seated places stand up with Six Degrees of Separation. When he confides in the audience, telling them it hasn’t been that long ago since he broke up with his own girlfriend, it gives him many oohs and aahs, and without a doubt the boy could cry on many people’s shoulders if it was up to the audience.
For The First Time closes the first part after half an hour, the singer hints to the audience for more when leaves the stage singing. However it is still a surprise when he suddenly shows up in the middle of the audience singing You Won’t Feel a Thing, followed by security, then wades himself through the sea of people back to the stage. The biggest hit of the album Hall of Fame is the finishing song of the concert, and if you ask us, this concert deserves a prize for the most ‘I love’ signs of the whole season.
The boys present in the audience, probably been dragged along by their girlfriends, definitely got a course about: The charming and emotional man’. The Script made their fans dream of more last night, but for that it’s too early. For that it’s waiting for Pinkpop.
