EXCLUSIVE: The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue plays omg!’s Musical Movie Scripts

With his band being called The Script we hedged out bets that Danny O'Donoghue might know a thing or two about movies and music.

Allow us to explain our logic...

Danny likes music, he's in a band called The Script — so of course he's going to know loads about music from the movies!

Well, that was our thoughts anyway.

So we decided to put this theory to the test.

Basically, we say a line from a film and he has to sing us the famous song from that film.

Sounds simple, right?

And to be fair, Danny was a great sport and did a pretty fab job: managing a brill seven out of eight.

However, our game did teach us a few things about Danny that concerned us.

He doesn't know Hakuna Matata from The Lion King, believing it involves some sort of tuna…

Yeah, we reckon Danny definitely needs to re-watch Lion King.

Luckily, we've got it on DVD if he wants to pop round with some popcorn?

Danny got VERY excited about Titanic! Copyright: [rex/wenn]

However, our highlight has to be his rendition of the Grease theme tune which sounded more to us like Batman if we are being honest.

Although coming in close in second place is probably the bit where Danny gets so overexcited by Titanic that he manages to whack the light and hurt his poor hand.

Danny O'Donoghue Looks Smug In London

Danny O'Donoghue Looks Smug In London As The Script Gear Up For First Ever Number 1 They've overtaken Amelia Lily on iTunes

The Voice UK coach Danny O'Donoghue looked like the cat who got the cream in London today as he arrived at the ITV Studios for a promotional appearance.

He's got good reason to be happy - his band The Script could be on the verge of scoring their first ever Number One single.

The group's new single 'Hall Of Fame', featuring will.i.am, had been 6,000 copies behind X Factor finalist Amelia Lily on Wednesday's midweek update, but the song is now in the top spot on the iTunes rankings.

How the change of positions on the online store's countdown affects the official nationwide chart will be revealed on Sunday when this week's final tally is announced.

But with Amelia now at No3 on iTunes, the signs are looking good for the Irish trio in their quest to bag their first ever chart-topping single.

Check out a very smiley Danny below

Monsters, Beliebers and other fan-tribes

SMALL PRINT : IF YOU see a gaggle of “Little Monsters” in Dublin tomorrow night, all beetling towards the Aviva stadium, don’t panic – it’s just Lady Gaga’s fans on their way to her concert. These days, no self-respecting pop star can be seen dead without their signature fan-tribe. You might be accosted by “Beliebers”, eager to convert you to the cult of teen popster Justin Beiber. Or you may find yourself under attack from “Mayniacs”, because you dared suggest that rising star Conor Maynard may be a little bit on the twee side.

In the 1960s, the “Deadheads” followed The Grateful Dead on their never-ending tour – not stopping even when Jerry Garcia died. In the 1980s, shopping centres were overrun by “Cureheads” in flop-mops and raincoats. REM always had a devoted following, but their singer attracted a particularly avid sub-group of fans known as “Distiples”. And where would the mighty Aidan Walsh, aka The Master of the Universe, be without his “Happy Slaves”? Still ruling minor galaxies, I’ll bet.

Today’s pop stars are catching on to the tribal trend, but not all of them get it right – “Directioners”? D’uh! So, let’s start a hashtag (#poptribes) and help these stars name their flock. Here are 10 to get you started.

1. The Grimlins – fiends for goth idol Aiden Grimshaw

2. The Minajerie – they’re an animal for Nicki Minaj

3. Peasants of Leon – blindly following the Followills.

4. The Peas’ Corps – volunteering for service to Fergie and Will.I.Am

5. Flowers’ Children – a cult blossoms around the Killers’ frontman.

6. Scriptonites – they’ve got a weakness for pop superhero Danny O’Donoghue

7. The Jep Set – flying the flag for Carly Rae

8. Tempah’s Tantrums – they want their Tinie – now!

9. The Rita Maids – single girls pounding the pavements for Ms Ora

10. The Azealiots – Extremely devoted to Ms Banks.

The Live Walk On At The Shepherds Bush Empire

The Script posted on Twitter a small video of their walk on at Shepherds Bush Empire tonight

The Byram Knows The Script...

It was a rather busy Friday last weekend gone for two big Irish success stories, namely Amanda Byram & The Script. Both parties partied as they done-the-rounds of radio stations promoting stuff and just being generally fab...

Everywhere we went last Friday we kept bumping into Her Holiness Amanda Byram and the bould bhoyos from The Script. But we're not complaining folks, both of 'em are good value when it comes to snaps... None of that diva nonsense here, in fact, you have to drag that Byram wan away from the camera...

Her Mandiness was hanging out at the 'Dermot & Dave Show' on 98FM last Friday with the all new chuckle bros David Moore & Dermot Whelan... Two gas fellars altogether... But no match for Mrs Wipeout when she's on form.

But just as the single TV presenter was done promoting the Dublin Fashion Festival, who should stroll in looking like hot specky rockstars? Only the handsome boys from The Script. Yup. Danny O'Donoghue, Mark Sheehan, and Glen Power. In case youse wuz wonderin'.

The Script lads were about the town bigging-up their new Twittertasic album called #3... That’s right folks, hashtags in front of album names as standard. The kidz will really dig that shizz, sez you.

So there you have it folks, The Byram & The Script all contained in one tight little ball of ShowBiz.ie nuggety goodness... Have a happy Monday on us

Voice' coach Danny O'Donoghue: 'I'd be foolish not to play X Factor'

Danny O'Donoghue has admitted that he'd be "foolish" not to accept an invitation to promote his music on The X Factor.

The Script frontman - who serves as a coach on BBC One rival show The Voice UK - confessed that he would probably take the opportunity to perform on the ITV prime time programme.

"If I was invited onto the show to sing, it's a music show at the end of the day," O'Donoghue told Digital Spy.

"Would I be judging on the show? Probably not. But would I go on the show to promote a song? I'd be foolish not to. There's millions of people watching - same as with any show.

"And by the way, this is for every band out there, if you get to go in a show, go on the show. Don't be too cool for school because it doesn't matter. Millions of people watch all of these shows and it's a really good platform."

O'Donoghue also confirmed that he has stayed in contact with his Voice UK team and intends to help them with their respective careers.

The Script's new album #3 is available to buy now.

The Voice UK: Danny O'Donoghue unsure how to improve show

The Voice UK coach Danny O’Donoghue has admitted he’s not sure how to improve the show.

Speaking about next year’s upcoming series, Danny insisted that the show had a place on UK telly, but confessed he didn’t have any ideas on ways to boost viewers for the live shows.

“I think we’ve all learned loads, I think we’ve learned there’s a huge amount of talent out there that remains untapped in Britain,” he said. “I think the voice has given new platforms to elevate your bands and your personality. I think that’s a really commendable thing to do.

“The Voice allows you to be the person you want to be.”

But Despite Danny’s praise, the show struggled in the ratings once it went live after the battle rounds.

“Everybody is calling for changes, I’m totally all ears,” Danny said. “The battle round was the most exciting moment for everybody, it’s a dragons den style thing, it’s very interesting and even being part of it was very entertaining.”

However The Script frontman conceded: “Then after that the live shows were like any other singing contest I guess that’s when he magic wore off… but I’m not really in TV to know what’s going to work and what’s not.”

BBC One boss Danny Cohen previously revealed that next year’s new series would see various changes, including “less live shows” and more focus on the “spinny chairs”.

Danny O’Donoghue’s trick to find hotel room

THE SCRIPT’S Danny O'Donoghue has found a convenient way to make sure he makes it back to his own hotel room on tour, even after a few pints of Guinness.

He said: “I am now getting them to book into the same room number at every hotel we stay in.

“That way I can always get back to my bed even after a big night out. The boys keep threatening to tweet that room number just to see who turns up!”

Given his role on The Voice, it will be some auditioning wannabes.

The Voice judge Danny O'Donoghue slams TV pop stars

THE Script have
admitted their new
single is an attack on reality pop stars — even though frontman Danny O’Donoghue was a judge on The Voice UK.

Hall of Fame, which features will.i.am, was written to inspire a new generation of musicians.

Dubliner Danny has just
finished a judging stint on The Voice UK, alongside Jessie J, Tom Jones and will.i.am.

But the star revealed: “I hate the idea of getting famous just for being famous.

“People say ‘How can you say that when you did The Voice?’, but I did the show to represent bands.

“Our message is, don’t be famous for fame’s sake. Be a teacher, a politician, whatever, but get on your soapbox and say something — don’t expect to get it on a plate.”

The powerful anthem, out Monday, was also penned to inspire 35-year-old guitarist Mark Sheehan’s wife Rina for a 4K charity race she ran for Cancer Research.

Danny (31) explained: “Some of the older women Rina ran with were busting their a*ses off to finish.
Album

“It was so heartwarming. I was thinking about the Olympic spirit too.”

The Irish trio’s next
album, titled #3, drops on September 10 and they believe it’s their strongest yet.
Danny added: “My lyrics come from deep-rooted issues.

“I’m sure there’s some
computer program that could be written to analyse it because I get all the dark stuff out in The Script.”

The Script’s Danny O'Donoghue talks about new album #3

To celebrate the release of their new album, #3, on Monday (September 10) OfficialCharts.com caught up with The Script's frontman Danny O'Donoghue.

Danny reveals that fans of his band will be presently surprised by the album’s direction:

“People were probably listening to us missing their lost love, and wanting to slit their wrists,” laughs Danny. “But this is a record that you’ll be able to play in pubs and clubs. We’re loud and proud about what we do now!”

That said, #3 still has plenty of epic, emotional moments with the likes of Six Degrees Of Separation tacking the recent break-up of his relationship – “It’s a really honest snapshot of my life,” says the singer - to coming to terms with the death of his father on If You Could See Me Now.

“My father passed away when I was writing the first album,” explains Danny. “It was probably too fresh and too raw to write about at the time. We literally went on tour and had our first Number 1 with the album. It was a crazy, crazy time.

“If You Could See Me Now goes right back to that time, and sums up the last four years. What would that person think of me now? What would my dad say to me now if he saw me? On one hand I know what he’d say, but on the other, I’ll never know. I’m proud to be able to put that into a song.”

The Script at HMV Ritz Review

RATHER than nursing celebratory Guinness hangovers, one day after the success of single ‘Hall Of Fame’ charting at number two, The Script took to the stage of the intimate Mancunian venue, HMV Ritz.

The Irish guys were on top form, playing an energetic set, featuring hits from their first two albums as well as sampling catchy new delights from album '#3', which was also released on 10 September.

The trio, comprising of Danny O’Donoghue, Glen Power and Mark Sheehan, rocked out a first class performance. They dazzled their droves of adoring fans with powerful renditions of hit singles, including ‘For the First Time’, ‘Breakeven’ and ‘Nothing.’ The chart topping tune, ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ left the whole room singing in unison. Definitely a spine tingling moment; one to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

The decibels that were shrieked, cheered and chanted within the HMV Ritz were overwhelming, yet all the guys were truly appreciative of every applaud they received. It was refreshing to see a band so grateful to be stood on their rightful home, the stage, and so committed to proving that they were worthy occupants.

Low ceilings added to an intimate feel within the sold out venue, especially considering the band last played at the colossal Manchester Arena, which is anything but intimate. It would certainly be shocking if The Script ever played somewhere as small as this again in Manchester, making this final, small scale gig extra special.

It was evident that audience participation and interaction was of utmost importance to the three-piece band. Energetic frontman, O’Donoghue, jumped off the stage and passed the microphone over to his frenzied female following. Half way through the set he disappeared from the stage, only to reappear on the balcony of the Ritz, singing amongst the crowds of his adoring fans; a brave move for the most wanted man in the room. Those girls were fierce and that balcony was high.

Anecdotes of the songs' inspiration and creation were often thrown into the mix, adding yet another personal layer. The crowd discovered that new track, ‘If You Could See Me Now’ was written about Sheehan's dead parents and O'Donoghue's late father - the odd tear stained face could be spotted after the lyric ‘When I see my face in the mirror, we look so alike that it makes me shiver’ was uttered. Drunk dialling was also discussed as an explanation to ‘Nothing’.

Lead guitarist, Sheehan appeared ecstatic on stage and could happily have stayed there all night. After the encore had ended, bows had been taken and sweaty musicians had left the stage, this little chap stayed and began singing, encouraging the audience to join in, in a karaoke style sing off.

For those regular Script fans, a new presence was noted on stage in the guise of Rodney the keyboard player. He joined session bassist Ben Sargeant, who is a regular piece of furniture amongst The Script’s live performances.

This gig was a perfect way to first hear the songs from the new album, bringing them alive with raw emotion and meaning, in a way that is not possible via iTunes

A shot at fame: Danny O'Donoghue tests Canon's latest digital camera

He judges pop wannabes on The Voice – but what does The Script’s singer make of the Canon Powershot G1 X?

'With the fully reversible viewfinder display on the (Canon Powershot) G1 X, you can see how it looks while you're shooting,' said Danny O'Donoghue

I’ve been a serious amateur photographer for two-and-a-half years.
A photographer working with the band gave me a camera, a Canon 7D, to go off and shoot for a day.
Since then I’ve just been doing it myself. I bought a 7D and a selection of lenses, and haven’t put it down since.
But I really enjoyed getting to grips with the G1 X.
I think having both together is a good combination; I love my pro camera because of the functionality that’s there, but I was surprised at the quality you can get from something so compact.

On the Canon Powershot G1 x: 'I particularly liked the ten-shots-in-a-row mode, as well as the enhanced colour mode. It's way better than Instagram - it looks like a real old photograph'

There are things I try to do on the 7D that are physically impossible. Every time I take a photo, I have to turn the camera around and see if I set up the shot right.
With the fully reversible viewfinder display on the G1 X, you can see how it looks while you’re shooting.
That really helps. To test the camera, I tried every function.
I particularly liked the ten-shots-in-a-row mode, as well as the enhanced colour mode. It’s way better than
Instagram – it looks like a real old photograph.

Overall, the pictures look almost as good as those taken on my 7D – I know it’s got a sensor that’s almost the same size as the D7, but that’s still surprising.

Sunrays taken by Danny

It’s really great in low-light situations, thanks to the very high ISO range it’s got.

There were a couple of things that disappointed me.
You can’t change the lens, for one thing. I understand that’s a deliberate choice Canon has made, as it’s a compact.
But for certain shots I found myself wanting to open my bag full of lenses. I love the feel of it, though, even more than the 7D.

It feels like you’re taking a photo on an old camera, with the chunky rubber grip, and it has a nice weight. It has an old-fashioned pop-up flash, too.

Band member Mark Sheehan in a photo taken by Danny

It’s also good to have manual controls on top – such as the exposure compensation dial. Having said that, the menus were easy to work out; I didn’t look at the instructions once.
You’ve got an instant video button on the side, so you can launch straight into filming at any point – that’s cool.

TECH SPEC
CANON POWERSHOT G1 X
£606, amazon.co.uk
Resolution 14.3 megapixels
Sensor size 18.7 x 14mm
Lens 28-112mm F2.8-5.8
Weight 534g
Video 1080p recording at 24fps
Again, the viewfinder comes into its own.

One final niggle – when you’re using the optical viewfinder you can see the lens through it. It’s a bit off-putting. But in order to be this compact, there had to be a compromise.
You can improve things by taking off the outer focus ring, but it’s annoying that you have to do it.
As far as compromises go, it’s one of the best I’ve seen – and that goes for the camera as a whole.

Danny O’Donoghue has a pop at James Corden

THE SCRIPT’S Danny O’Donoghue has had a pop at James Corden, after the comedian called him Danny O’Dono-who at this year’s Brits.

The Voice judge said: “I haven’t bumped into him. I’d be more likely to bump off him.

“You have to have a scapegoat, and this time it’s The Paddy.

“I was at the Brits when he said that, and there was a good 15 minutes when I thought I was going to throw a bun at his head. But karma intervened and he f****d the whole thing up by cutting Adele’s speech short.”
