Scots teen hero Jenna Speirs gets a message from Danny O'Donoghue after landing award

THE former Great Scot, who hit the headlines after setting up holiday homes for sick children after her twin died from a brain tumour, had photos taken alongside JLS, Taylor Swift and Little Mix.

TEEN hero Jenna Speirs met a galaxy of pop stars at the Radio 1 awards last week – but she was the superstar.

And she was left speechless when her hero, The Voice star Danny O’Donoghue, sent her a personal message.

The 17-year-old, from Rothesay on Bute, was congratulated by the hunky Irish singer as she picked up her Radio 1 Teen Hero award. Jenna, who is a massive fan of The Script, was honoured last Sunday.

The teenager, who has helped build two holiday homes on Bute for terminally ill kids and their families, said: “I still cannot believe Danny knows who I am. I nearly keeled over when he sent me a video message and invited me to come see him in concert next time The Script are in Scotland.

“My friends and I all think he is gorgeous and they are all begging me to take them with me when I go to see him.”

Jenna, who is studying radiography at Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University, was chosen as a winner from thousands of nominees and received her award from R&B singer Mischa B.

She said: “It was a really overwhelming experience. There were more than 20,000 people in Wembley and they were all cheering me.

The holiday homes were inspired by Jenna’s twin Calum, who died from a brain tumour in February 2007, aged just 12.

His dying wish was for his sister and parents Duncan, 50, and Caroline, 44, to build a house, where sick children could make memories.
